FAQ

As part of SCF Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development, LearnEd offers a variety of non-credit courses, workshops, and programs that are open to the public. You do not need to enroll in the College in order to take a class. You can take as many classes as you want, whenever you want.

Participants of all ages are welcome. We offer programs, workshops, camps, and classes for everyone from elementary school children to retirees.

While LearnEd is a division of State College of Florida, you do not need to be enrolled at SCF to take a LearnEd class. All LearnEd classes, camps, and workshops are open to the public.

Class fees vary based on the type of course, level of instruction, and materials needed. Since LearnEd is a self-supported division of SCF, course pricing is set separately from the for-credit classes at the College. Please note that all class fee payments are due at the time of enrollment via credit or debit card.

Classes are offered either online or in person. In-person classes are held at our SCF campuses in Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Venice.

The class you’re looking for may be scheduled for a later date and not yet open for registration. In this case, we can add you to a waitlist and contact you when registration opens. Some classes run consistently. Some are periodic. Others are annual. If we don’t offer the class you want, please let us know. We are always open to new ideas! Email LearnEd@SCF.edu to inquire about a class.

You can add yourself to a waitlist if a class is full or registration is not yet open. We will contact you as soon as registration opens or a spot becomes available. Email LearnEd@SCF.edu to inquire about a waitlist for a class.

For multi-session classes: We understand that sometimes life happens. To cancel participation for a multi-session class or camp, you must submit a cancellation request in writing to LearnEd@SCF.edu at least five (5) business days prior to the first class. If your request is received less than five (5) business days prior to the start of class, any expenses incurred by LearnEd on behalf of SCF Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development will be deducted from the refund. You can cancel after the start of class, however, no refunds will be provided.

For all single-session workshops or classes: You will receive a full refund if you submit a written cancellation request in writing to LearnEd@SCF.edu at least three (3) business days prior to the start of class. If your request is received less than three (3) days prior to the class start date, you will not be provided a refund. You may have the option to transfer to the next class, at the discretion of SCF Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development, if there is space available.

Each workshop, camp, and class has different materials. In most cases, all course materials will be supplied to you at the start of class. This may include handouts, course manuals, pencils, or folders. Depending on the class, you may or may not be allowed to keep the course manual. In some cases, you must purchase a book from the SCF Bookstore at the Bradenton or Venice campus. Books can also be purchased online at www.BKSTR.com/SCFBradentonStore. You’ll receive notification of any required materials prior to the start of the course or workshop.

The SCF Industry Certification Testing Center is located on the Lakewood Ranch campus. Testing hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For questions or to schedule an appointment, please email LakewoodRanchTesting@SCF.edu or call 941-363-7264.
