Strap in for a wild ride in RoboCoaster: Engineering with SPIKE Prime! In this robotics adventure, students become amusement park engineers as they build spinning rides, coasters, and interactive games. Explorers will explore sensors, gears, motors, and block-based coding while solving design challenges and collaborating in teams.
Course Highlights (Aligned with Florida Standards):
-
Build and code amusement rides using LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime
(SC.3.P.10.2 – Explore how energy causes motion.) -
Understand how gears, motors, and sensors interact
(CTE-STEM.68.TE.1.5 – Apply STEM to real-world problems.) -
Use data and feedback to improve designs
(MA.3.M.2.2 – Measure and apply data to refine products.) -
Collaborate and test designs in a team setting
(ELA.K12.EE.4.1 – Participate in collaborative problem-solving.)
AUGUST: Laser Lab – Digital Design for Kids
Explore digital design and laser cutting with SCF’s Glowforge! Students create custom puzzles, signs, and keychains while learning design thinking, STEM safety basics, and fabrication fundamentals in a fun and creative setting.
SEPTEMBER: Minecraft Jr. Coding Quest
Young coders step into Minecraft Education Edition to tackle block-based coding challenges. Students build, explore, and solve in-game quests while mastering programming concepts like loops, sequences, and conditionals.
OCTOBER: Jimu Robotics Obstacle Course Challenge
Budding engineers design and code their own robots using Jimu kits to conquer obstacle courses. With daily design challenges and race-day competitions, kids learn physics, coding, and collaboration in an energetic, team-based environment.
NOVEMBER: Mission MedTech – 3D Printing for Space
Future innovators discover how astronauts might use 3D printers to stay healthy on Mars. Students brainstorm, sketch, and digitally design custom medical tools, then bring their ideas to life with beginner-friendly 3D printing tools.
JANUARY: RoboCoaster – Amusement Park Engineering with SPIKE Prime
Kids become theme park engineers by designing robotic coasters, rides, and games using LEGO® SPIKE Prime kits. Explorers dive into gears, sensors, and block-based programming while solving real-world engineering puzzles as a team.
