LearnEd

Blast off into the future of medicine and innovation with Mission: MedTech – 3D Printing for Space! Students will explore how astronauts might stay healthy during space missions by using 3D printers to create essential medical tools. Students will brainstorm, sketch, and digitally design a custom medical device to support astronauts on a journey to Mars—then bring their idea to life using beginner-friendly 3D design software and printers.

Course Highlights (Aligned with Florida Standards):

  • Learn about space travel and astronaut health
(SC.5.E.5.2 – Compare properties of Earth and other planets.)

  • Design and 3D print a prototype using digital tools
(CTE-STEM.68.TE.2.2 – Use tools and materials to develop solutions.)

  • Discover how innovation meets health care in space
(SC.4.L.16.4 – Understand how humans impact the environment.)

  • Collaborate to design, revise, and present projects
(ELA.K12.EE.4.1 – Collaborate to solve problems.)

AUGUST: Laser Lab – Digital Design for Kids

Explore digital design and laser cutting with SCF’s Glowforge! Students create custom puzzles, signs, and keychains while learning design thinking, STEM safety basics, and fabrication fundamentals in a fun and creative setting.

SEPTEMBER: Minecraft Jr. Coding Quest

Young coders step into Minecraft Education Edition to tackle block-based coding challenges. Students build, explore, and solve in-game quests while mastering programming concepts like loops, sequences, and conditionals.

OCTOBER: Jimu Robotics Obstacle Course Challenge

Budding engineers design and code their own robots using Jimu kits to conquer obstacle courses. With daily design challenges and race-day competitions, kids learn physics, coding, and collaboration in an energetic, team-based environment.

NOVEMBER: Mission MedTech – 3D Printing for Space

Future innovators discover how astronauts might use 3D printers to stay healthy on Mars. Students brainstorm, sketch, and digitally design custom medical tools, then bring their ideas to life with beginner-friendly 3D printing tools.

JANUARY: RoboCoaster – Amusement Park Engineering with SPIKE Prime

Kids become theme park engineers by designing robotic coasters, rides, and games using LEGO® SPIKE Prime kits. Explorers dive into gears, sensors, and block-based programming while solving real-world engineering puzzles as a team.
